Pico Toning:
which color is it for?

It is a laser that releases light in picosecond bursts. We start by telling melasma, spots and marks apart.

Book a consultation

Pico Toning manages pigment with a laser that emits very short bursts of light, measured in picoseconds (one trillionth of a second). The manufacturer, Candela, states that PicoWay uses four wavelengths: 1064, 785, 730 and 532nm. Which wavelength and setting are used is decided during the exam, after looking at your skin and pigment.

  • Four wavelengths

Each wavelength is absorbed by different colors and reaches a different depth. The same machine is used differently depending on the type of pigment.

  • Pigment comes first

Melasma, freckles, age spots and acne marks sound alike but are approached in a different order. What yours is gets checked in the exam first.

Prepare your questions

You do not need settled answers. If you have photos, you are welcome to show them.

  1. The color that bothers you most

Note where it is, such as cheekbones, forehead or around the mouth, and what color it is (brown, gray-brown, red).

  2. When it appeared

If something set it off, such as childbirth, summer or taking the pill, add that too.

  3. Recent treatments

Lasers, peels, injections: the type and roughly when, as best you recall.

  4. Medicines you take or apply

If you use a brightening cream or an oral medication for melasma (such as tranexamic acid), note the name.

  5. Time in the sun

Whether you get a lot of sun, such as outdoor work, driving or exercise.

  6. Your schedule

If you have important dates coming up, let us know.

Before your consultation

What is Pico Toning?

A treatment that manages pigment with a laser emitting very short bursts of light, measured in picoseconds. The manufacturer states that PicoWay uses four wavelengths.

How many sessions do I need?

The number and spacing depend on the type and depth of the pigment. We explain this after looking at your skin in the exam.

Does the treatment hurt?

Expect a snapping sort of sensation, stronger for some people than for others. Let us know before we start if that feels like too much.

Is there anything to be careful about afterwards?

Sun protection matters. Tell the clinic if you notice redness or a change in color. What applies to you and how to care for your skin are explained in the exam.
